Paul Nicholl, Head of History, Handcross Park School - 19 Feb 2009
The introduction of So you really want to learn History Books 1 & 2 has been a wonderful bonus to my teaching my pupils this year. The books are so colourful and relevant, sitting alongside my own History notes very comfortably. We are also enjoying the Junior History series lower down the school.
Caroline Hampton, Home Educator - 9 Sep 2008
I love the fact that your History books are chronological - such a rare thing and makes so much more sense than the way the National Curriculum does history.
Anni Cole-Hamilton, Moray Firth School - 5 Jun 2008
Carefully pitched at lower middle school levels, this is a well-written - and fun - overview of British history from the arrival of the Romans to the Norman invasion. Challenging and stimulating, it encourages understanding and evaluation, skill- and knowledge-building, with plenty of time for sheer enjoyment! A sure foundation for later studies, and a fitting conclusion to Galore Park's excellent Junior History series.
Niall Murphy, Radley - 15 May 2008
This is the last in the Junior History Book series, and it is a marvellous book. It can be used to complete the narrative of what happened in Britain and Europe after the Greeks and the Romans, or else on its own as an early history of the British Isles. The Celtic tribes, Roman Britain and the so-called Dark Ages are all covered in exciting detail, including the stories of Boudica, Caratacus and the myths surrounding King Arthur and Alfred the Great. The later part of the book serves as an excellent introduction to Common Entrance Medieval Realms - the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms and the Vikings are brought to life in a vivid and interesting way. All the complex issues leading up to the Norman Conquest are introduced with an accessible style. As with other Galore Park history books, there are tasks at the end of each chapter for the interest and enjoyment of pupils and teachers alike. Simply put, this book brings the period from 55 BC to 1066 to life.
