Sarah, Parents in Touch - 10 Dec 2010
This book, produced by Galore Park, is designed to cover the 11+ Common Entrance syllabus. As such, it is also an excellent resource for KS2 science, especially for those pupils who need 'stretching'. It is endorsed by the ISEB, so you can be sure the entire syllabus is covered so it is an excellent resource for those in schools which do not prepare for Common Entrance. The book is beautifully presented and absolutely crammed with illustrations, which make learning clear and memorable. The exercises at the end of each chapter are challenging and provide an excellent review before continuing, or great revision aids. The extension questions are particularly challenging. This book will really engage students and is also an excellent resource for home schoolers.

I recently ordered your science book and just want to tell you how impressed I am. I home educate two children at home and covering science has been quite challenging. All the books we have seem to jump from subject to subject and are sometimes vague and even contradictory. I've worried about the gaps in their science understanding. This book is different from the rest. It is clear, sequential and best of all thorough. I feel so much better knowing that my children will be provided with a solid foundation in science. It is a huge relief. Thank you.
Dr David Penter, Malvern College - 28 Oct 2008
Dr Pickering is an experienced and lucid author and his text closely correlates with the demands of th 11+ Common Entrance Science syllabus. He has included a focus on experimental design which will help lay the foundations for children to develop the practical and investigative skills required throughout secondary science education.

Galore Park, the publisher of the excellent So You Really Want to Learn Latin, have come up with So You Really Want to Learn Science. Book 1, clearly laid out and attractively illustrated, covers "life and living processes", "materials and their properties" and "physical processes" in 25 lucid chapters, each of which ends with a series of exercises.
Aimed at pupils working for the 11-plus Common Entrance exam, it has been endorsed by the Independent Schools Examinations Board and will be followed by Book 2, completing the 13-plus syllabus. For parents who cannot afford prep school fees, this is the next best thing.
