Covid-19 ISEB Update

In view of the subsequent government directive for schools to close from 20 March, ISEB's position remains that we seek to ensure that where schools wish their pupils to take Common Entrance, they may do so. If schools remain closed, appropriate alternative arrangements will be needed. Our guidance on this will depend both on the positions taken by the Department for Education on public examinations and the circumstances prevailing at the time.

By making it possible for pupils to take CE examinations, prep schools will be able to direct learning according to tried and tested syllabuses, allow their pupils' achievements to be recognised and provide senior schools with an indication of what these pupils know, understand and can do.

To facilitate preparation of pupils for CE, schools are permitted, in these exceptional circumstances, to send practice/mock papers to pupils’ homes, electronically or by other means.

We would additionally advise prep school heads to include in their Head’s Report information about past performance in CE papers taken in exam conditions at school.

This guidance will be regularly updated on the ISEB website.
